I'm supposed to be burning mix CDs for the peiole I will meet in Africa, and I have yet to even pick the music for the mix. I haven't even picked the music for my shuffle yet. Hard decision process, really, since I will have no control for the next 6 weeks of what comes next on my iPod...you don't want too random a mix, but you don't want to be locked into something you'll hate in a week and a half.
So far, the perfect music for New York has been:
::Makes Me Wonder:: by Maroon 5
perfect for walking out of the Subway, up the really long escillator, and down the street with just enough beat to keep you moving, but not enough to make you swing your hips accidentally. keep it under control.
(and this is the funniest thing in the world to hear Neal, Ryan, and Monkey Boy sing to each other)
::Have You Ever:: by Brandi Carlile
good bohemian song, nice for riding the Subway and feeling like you're in the village (or at least FROM the village) no matter where you are in the city.
::Don't Panic:: by Coldplay
it's been my cell phone ring for the past 7 months, and it's a good thing I still like it since my phone's been without a screen for the last 5 months... Still a good song for city people watching and more subway riding.
::In Your Eyes:: by Peter Gabriel
reminds me to think of what the city would have been like in the 80s and of when people actually SANG their music analog, without all this digital pitch correction crap. Plus, I've always wanted to see a travel montage to this kind of music and the 80s make me think of Live Aid and Africa...
::Hey There Delilah:: by Plain White T's
"Hey there Delilah, What's it like in New York City?...Times Square can't shine as bright as you, I swear it's true..."
++::Someone Who Loves You:: by Walter the Orange Ocean
PERFECT montage song for the city. Reminds me of Love Actually, or You've got mail, or Notting Hill, or some other city-based movie with a love/separation montage that includes a time lapse of lots of people on public transportation...most fun to listen to while you're casually on your way somewhere on the Subway during or around rush hour..."you've got someone that loves you"
I only have another couple of days in the city country, so I'm buying all kinds of stuff I forgot, and I'm planning to just stay in Saturday and do laundry, eat crap pizza and watch a movie before the big departure. Kim and I will be running to the MoMA Saturday morning and I'll head to the park in the afternoon to say goodbye to everyone at the Gallery...
